Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has expressed confidence that President William Ruto will be re-elected in 2027, citing the government’s commitment to national development and inclusive growth. Speaking during the Shinyalu Economic Empowerment event at Mukumu Grounds in Kakamega County, Kindiki said the government’s priority is uplifting the lives of Kenyans regardless of tribe, region, or economic status.

The DP emphasized that President Ruto’s administration has steered clear of divisive politics and instead focused on delivering development equitably across the country. He stated that projects in key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, electricity, and housing are transforming lives and will form the basis of their re-election campaign.

“We are working hard to ensure that by 2027, the development initiatives started by President Ruto are completed. When we return to seek your votes, we shall come with a detailed scorecard,” Prof. Kindiki affirmed.

Kindiki also highlighted that the broad-based government, which includes support from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is united in prioritizing national interests over political sideshows. He noted that the collaboration is fast-tracking key projects across the country, pointing to the construction of roads, expansion of health services, rollout of affordable housing, and electrification of rural homes.

In Kakamega County, the DP revealed that the national government, in partnership with the county administration, is upgrading the Kakamega Referral Hospital to Level 6 status. He assured residents that construction works—personally commissioned by the President—are progressing and are set for completion within six months.

“The President pledged funds to complete the hospital. The project is ongoing, and once finished, residents will enjoy better healthcare services,” he said.

The government has also released funds for the renovation of Bukhungu Stadium to provide modern sports facilities for youth development. Kindiki mentioned that the project is part of a broader strategy to nurture talent and create opportunities for the region’s youth.

Furthermore, modern markets are being constructed across Kakamega, with the flagship project in Khayega. These markets aim to improve trading conditions and boost small businesses. Additionally, affordable housing projects are ongoing, with institutions like Masinde Muliro University and Sigalagala National Polytechnic benefiting from modern student hostels.

Prof. Kindiki revealed that under the last-mile connectivity program, Kakamega has received Ksh. 2.5 billion to connect over 26,000 households to the national electricity grid. He stressed that every household deserves access to power, not just the wealthy.

The revival of sugar factories remains a top priority, he added, noting that recent bonus payments to cane farmers signify positive growth in the sector. He also mentioned that the government has secured an investor to revitalize the gold mining sector in Kakamega, further boosting the regions economic prospects.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, Kindiki accused them of focusing on tribal politics and idle talk instead of offering development-oriented solutions. “While we build the nation, they continue shouting and spreading propaganda without any tangible plan for Kenyans,” he said.

The event was attended by key leaders including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, and several MPs and senior officials from various parts of the country.
