Baringo Senator William Kipkorir Cheptumo, 57, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Nairobi Hospital after a brief illness, leaving a legacy of dedicated public service.
Cheptumo’s political career began as the Member of Parliament for Baringo North from 2008 to 2013. In the 2022 General Election, he ascended to the Senate, securing a victory under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, defeating the incumbent Gideon Moi. As Senator, Cheptumo was unwavering in his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents and strengthening the devolution agenda. He passionately advocated for the declaration of cattle rustling as a national disaster, highlighting its severe impact on his community.
In response to his untimely passing, President William Ruto mourned the loss of a progressive leader, praising Cheptumo’s tireless efforts to transform Baringo County. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi also expressed deep condolences, acknowledging Cheptumo’s selfless advocacy for the welfare of his people and Kenya as a whole.
