Causes of physical disability
Physical disability refers to any impairment that interferes with an individuals ability to move(mobility) and perform daily activities for example self care activities.Therefore the causes of physical impairments can be divided into three:
1.Prenatal causes
These include teratogenic substances that occurs in the mothers womb before the child is born.The teratogenic substances can include alcohol and substances, chemicals,lead contained substances and emotions of the mother.
2.Perinatal causes
These include causes of physical impairments during birth for example head injuries,lack of adequate oxygen and inadequate birth care by the birth attendants.
3.Postnatal causes
These include environmental factors which occcurs after birth for example accidents, physical injuries during plays, traumatic events among others.
Accomodations for people with physical disabilities include:
Occupational therapy which is aimed to improve functioning of day to day activities.
Physiotherapy to improve physical functioning for example movement.
Aqua therapy which include walking in water to improve mobility.
Play therapy to improve the mood
Assistive technology for example wheelchairs to facilitate movements.
