The leader of the Democratic Party for the People (DCP) Rigathi Gachagua has canceled his planned speech to the public at Kamukunji Stadium after returning to the country from a six-week visit to the United States.

The leader of the Democratic Party for the People (DCP) Rigathi Gachagua has canceled his planned speech to the public at Kamukunji Stadium after returning to the country from a six-week visit to the United States. Speaking during a temporary stop in the Ole Sereni area along Mombasa Road on Thursday, August 21, 2025, DCP deputy leader Cleophas Malalah noted that the procession would no longer continue at Kamukunji Stadium. 

"Lets take the dosi home now," Malalah said during the stop. (Gachagua will go to his house).Gachagua had previously planned to address the people along Mombasa road in various places before holding a big meeting at Kamukunji stadium. However, it is not yet clear why the plans have been canceled and the caravan has been discarded. 

The thing to know is that the Gachagua convoy encountered strong winds on Airport North Road and City Kabanas area, where they were stopped by thugs who were throwing stones. As Gachaguas supporters managed to drive the mobsters away and advance, the confrontation was not without loss. Several people were injured, including journalists who were following the live incident. Their cars and equipment were destroyed during the riots.

 Several leaders who accompanied Gachagua also complained that their cars were damaged by thugs. During Ole Serenis stop, Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia revealed that there was a detailed plot to arrest Gachagua shortly after arriving at JKIA at 2:00 pm. Speaking during a short stop to the convoy in the Airtel area near Ole Sereni on Thursday, August 21, 2025 that police officers arrested him. blocked by supporters who were crowded at the countrys largest airport.

 "I want to sincerely thank the residents of Nairobi for standing with us because at the airport, there were at least 200 police officers sent to arrest Rigathi Gachagua, but you stood firm as Gachaguas infantry," Methu said. Gachagua was out of the country for the past six weeks, where he held various meetings with Kenyans in at least six US states.

He was then taken through the crowd by his security team to his pending meeting.His supporters had camped at the airport from early Thursday morning.Gachagua was in America for six weeks, where he mobilized supporters and held public meetings with Kenyans in the Diaspora.

 

He also maintained strong criticism of President William Rutos administration for corruption, extrajudicial killings and human rights violations. He is expected to lead a procession to Kamukunji grounds for a public meeting, a move that the government has promised to keep an eye on to prevent lawlessness.
