Contributing Housing Levy Contributions Not a Guarantee for Home Ownership – CS Alice Wahome

Nairobi, Kenya – Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has clarified that contributions to the Housing Levy under the Boma Yangu program do not guarantee home ownership. Speaking at a public forum, Wahome emphasized that the levy is a tax, not personal savings. "What youre contributing is not your savings; youre contributing a tax," she stated. The remarks have sparked debate among Kenyans, many of whom had hoped their contributions would directly secure homes. The government has defended the levy as essential for funding affordable housing, but critics argue it lacks clarity on how beneficiaries are selected.
