Murkomen dismisses allegations connecting him to a land dispute in Kiambu
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has denied recent allegations published in a daily newspaper that linked him to a land dispute. In a statement released on April 22, 2026, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration described the claims as baseless, saying the story relied on “rumour, conjecture and wild allegations.”
The Ministry clarified that Murkomen has no personal stake in the disputed property, nor any knowledge of the land, its location, or any existing dispute. The statement also noted that the Cabinet Secretary does not personally conduct police patrols, and any police involvement in land-related incidents should not be interpreted as reflecting his personal interest.
Furthermore, Murkomen does not direct police in their daily operations. Any general policy directives he issues are made publicly and in writing through the Inspector General of Police. He urged the Inspector General and investigative agencies to act swiftly to resolve the matter and protect the rights of legitimate landowners.
The controversy originated from a newspaper report detailing a long-running family feud over a 300-acre parcel in Runda, Kiambu County, reportedly worth around Ksh20 billion. The report alleged that Murkomen, along with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia, was involved in protecting individuals accused of illegally occupying the land.
Petitioners, including members of the Mbugua family, claimed that over 200 people had taken over the property and that police in Kiambu had been compromised, failing to act on complaints. They also alleged that part of the disputed land was transferred to a private company under suspicious circumstances.
