Ngilu Declares 2027 Comeback Bid for Kitui Governor Seat
Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has declared her bid to reclaim the seat in 2027. She vowed to serve residents with dedication and criticized leaders who isolate themselves. Ngilu promised open-door leadership and accessibility if re-elected.
Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has announced her bid to reclaim the county’s top seat in the 2027 elections. Ngilu, who served between 2018 and 2022, stated that she is ready to return to leadership after heeding calls from residents. She made the declaration during a burial in Ivovoa village, Kitui Central, where mourners cheered in apparent support.
Ngilu stepped aside in the 2022 polls, throwing her support behind current Governor Julius Malombe, who went on to secure an easy victory. However, she now believes it is time to continue her leadership, promising to serve Kitui residents with love, devotion, and a commitment to their needs.
She emphasized the importance of open-door leadership, urging all county officials to be accessible to the people. Ngilu criticized leaders who isolate themselves in offices, drive around in fleets of cars, or walk on red carpets, forgetting their humble beginnings. She vowed to remain close to the electorate if re-elected.
The veteran politician also reminded leaders that public offices belong to the people, not individuals. She reiterated that all Kitui residents—regardless of their status—deserve respect and quality service. With her renewed ambition, Ngilu is set to be a key contender in the upcoming race.
