Psychodynamic therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is derived from Psychodynamic theory.Psychodynamic theory was founded by Sigmund Freud at Leipzig University.Psychodynamic therapy is majorly used by therapists,counsellors and psychologists to help clients to heal from various problems including;

1.Anxiety

Anxiety is a psychological problem characterised by excessive tense and attacks.Anxiety can be very prevalent in school going children between the age of 6 to 17 years majorly during examination periods and during changes including change of school.Psychodynamic therapy is applied in treatment of anxiety by identifying the early childhood experiences that could have led to the problem.More are discussed at the bottom.

2.Trauma

Trauma refers toe emotional attacks that occurs after occurrence of a specific dangerous event for example accidents, physical and emotional abuse.If this happens to children and not resolved at appropriate time then the trauma can be carried to their adulthood life.Therefore,psychodynamic therapy can be used to treat trauma by identifying what happened to an individual at the first 6 years of life.

Psychodynamic therapy works by identifying the early childhood experiences,the ego defence mechanisms,the dreams and slip of the tongue.Ego defence mechanisms refers to the various methods individuals use to respond to an emotion for example anger.Examples of ego defence mechanisms include projection, displacement and rationalisation.
