Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions in selected parts of six counties on Monday, September 7, 2026. The interruptions are part of scheduled maintenance and network improvement works. Residents, businesses, schools, hospitals and other institutions in the affected areas have been advised to make arrangements for the temporary loss of electricity.

The planned interruptions affect Nairobi, Bomet, Siaya, Migori, Nyeri and Meru counties, although the exact areas and times differ from one location to another. 

 *Why Kenya Power is switching off electricity* 

According to the reported Kenya Power notice, the interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance and upgrading of power lines, connection of new customers and replacement of electricity infrastructure where road construction works require it. Such planned interruptions allow technicians to work safely on sections of the electricity network. 

The company normally publishes maintenance notices so customers can prepare for the temporary interruption. Kenya Power's customer-service platform also provides a Power Maintenance Schedule, where customers can check planned interruptions. 

 *Nairobi County* 

In Nairobi, the scheduled interruption will affect parts of the United Nations area.

If electricity does not return after the scheduled restoration time, customers can report the problem to Kenya Power. The company says customers can use the myPower App and select the option to report a power failure. They can also dial *977#, select “Report incidences”, then choose “Power outage.”
