The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has today, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, officially re-advertised 1,631 promotional vacancies for serving teachers seeking to move into school leadership positions. The new opportunity covers three important positions: Deputy Headteacher II (Regular), Deputy Principal III (Regular), and Senior Master II.

The official TSC e-Promotion Centre confirms that the three advertisements opened on September 1, 2026, and will remain open until September 14, 2026. The applications are to be submitted online.

The latest announcement is particularly significant because it gives qualified serving teachers another opportunity to compete for leadership positions after an earlier promotion exercise. The vacancies are being filled in accordance with the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers, and successful candidates will be posted to institutions where the vacancies exist.

The largest portion of the recruitment is for Deputy Headteacher II, with 1,470 positions. The two secondary-school leadership positions account for the remaining 161 posts, comprising 132 Deputy Principal III positions and 29 Senior Master II positions.

1. Deputy Headteacher II – 1,470 vacancies

The biggest opportunity in the new advertisement is for Deputy Headteacher II (Regular).

TSC has advertised 1,470 vacancies under Advert No. 110/2026. The official advertisement lists the position as T-Scale 9, associated with the C3-C4 grade range on the TSC system.

 *Who qualifies?*

According to the official TSC advertisement, a teacher seeking appointment to this grade must:

Have served as Senior Teacher I, T-Scale 8 (C3), for at least two years.

Have obtained a satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process.

Have demonstrated the ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

Meet any other requirement that TSC may deem necessary.

This is an important distinction because the position is a promotional opportunity for serving teachers, rather than an ordinary entry-level teaching vacancy.

The successful applicants will take on additional administrative and instructional responsibilities in their schools. A deputy headteacher assists the headteacher in managing the institution, supervising teachers, supporting curriculum implementation, monitoring learner welfare and discipline, and coordinating school programmes.

With 1,470 positions available, Deputy Headteacher II is by far the largest category in the September 2026 re-advertisement.

2. Deputy Principal III – 132 vacancies

The second major category is Deputy Principal III (Regular).

TSC has advertised 132 positions under Advert No. 108/2026. The post is listed at T-Scale 11, within the C5-D1 range.

Requirements for Deputy Principal III

The official advertisement states that applicants must:

Have served as Senior Master III or Senior Master III–JSS, T-Scale 10 (C5), for a minimum of two years.

Have obtained a satisfactory performance-appraisal rating.

Demonstrate the ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

Meet any additional requirement considered necessary by the Commission.

The Deputy Principal III position is a significant leadership position in a secondary school. The successful teacher becomes part of the school's senior management team and assists the principal in overseeing the day-to-day running of the institution.

Responsibilities can include coordinating academic programmes, supervising teachers, monitoring learner performance, supporting examinations, overseeing discipline and student welfare, and helping implement school policies.

The position also represents an important stage in the career progression of teachers aspiring to higher administrative positions in secondary education.

3. Senior Master II – 29 vacancies

The third category is Senior Master II, for which TSC has advertised 29 vacancies under Advert No. 109/2026.

The position is also placed at T-Scale 11 (C5-D1).

 *Requirements*

TSC's official advertisement states that an applicant for Senior Master II must:

Have served as Senior Master III or Senior Master III–JSS, T-Scale 10 (C5), for at least two years.

Have a satisfactory performance-appraisal rating.

Demonstrate the ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers.

Meet any other requirements that the Commission considers necessary.

Senior Master II is an important administrative and academic leadership position. The officer may be involved in curriculum supervision, teacher coordination, academic performance monitoring, examination administration, learner discipline and other school-management functions.

However, competition for these posts is likely to be particularly high because only 29 vacancies have been advertised nationally.

*When does the application open and close?*

The official TSC system shows that all three advertisements have the same application period:

Opening date: September 1, 2026

Closing date: September 14, 2026

The advertisements are currently marked Online on the TSC e-Promotion Centre.

This means teachers have approximately two weeks to complete their applications.

Applicants should avoid waiting until the final day. Because many teachers may attempt to access the portal near the deadline, it is advisable to submit applications well before September 14.

 *How teachers can apply*

The application is being conducted online through TSC's online services.

TSC's online system states that teachers can apply for advertised posts through the platform and track the processing of their applications through to appointment. The Commission also specifically states that an online application does not require submission of a hard copy.

The basic process is:

Step 1: Access the TSC online services

Go to the official TSC online services platform.

TSC Online Services / Advertisements

Step 2: Log into your teacher account

The system provides an account-verification process using the teacher's TSC number.

Step 3: Select the appropriate advertised position

Applicants should select the position for which they meet the requirements.

The three current adverts are:

Advert 108/2026 – Deputy Principal III (Regular)

Advert 109/2026 – Senior Master II

Advert 110/2026 – Deputy Headteacher II (Regular)

The official TSC advert page provides a View | Apply option for each of the three positions.

Step 4: Verify your information

Teachers should ensure their TSC profile contains accurate and up-to-date information, particularly information relating to their current grade, qualifications, experience and performance appraisal.

Step 5: Submit the application

After confirming that they meet the requirements, applicants should complete and submit the application online.

TSC warns on its online platform that no payment is required for applications. Teachers should therefore be cautious of anyone demanding money in exchange for an application, shortlisting or appointment.

*What about teachers who applied previously?*

One of the most important points concerning the latest announcement is that this is a re-advertisement.

Reports on the announcement indicate that teachers who already applied under the previous advertisement and successfully submitted their applications do not need to apply again. Their earlier applications remain valid for consideration.

However, teachers who did not apply previously, or whose applications were not successfully submitted, should use the current advertisement period if they meet the qualifications.

Applicants should also make sure they understand whether their previous application was successfully submitted before assuming that they do not need to apply again.

Why the advertisement is important

The latest TSC advertisement comes at a time when the Commission is undertaking a series of major teacher recruitment and promotion exercises.

The 1,631 positions are not ordinary classroom-teaching jobs. They are promotional opportunities intended to strengthen leadership and management in public schools while providing serving teachers with opportunities to advance their careers.

The distribution also shows where the greatest demand is. With 1,470 of the 1,631 vacancies, Deputy Headteacher II accounts for roughly 90 percent of the advertised positions.

Deputy Principal III accounts for 132 positions, while Senior Master II has the smallest allocation at 29 positions.

This means primary-school teachers who meet the Senior Teacher I requirement have considerably more advertised opportunities in terms of the number of posts, while eligible secondary-school teachers face fewer positions and potentially stronger competition.

Equal opportunity and persons with disabilities

TSC has reiterated that it is an equal opportunity employer and has encouraged qualified persons with disabilities to apply for the available vacancies.

Therefore, eligible teachers should not assume that they are excluded simply because they have a disability, provided they meet the requirements and can perform the duties associated with the position.

Important warning to applicants

Teachers should be extremely careful when applying.

The official TSC online system states that no payment is required for applications.

Consequently, applicants should not send money to individuals claiming that they can secure shortlisting, interviews, promotion or appointment.

Teachers should also use the official TSC platforms rather than relying on unofficial links circulated through WhatsApp, Facebook or other social-media platforms.

The safest approach is to access the TSC online services directly and confirm the advert number, position, requirements and deadline before submitting an application.

Teachers should carefully compare their current grade and years of service against the requirements before applying. Most importantly, applicants should use the official TSC portal, submit their applications before the deadline and not pay anyone for the application or promised appointment. TSC's online system explicitly confirms that applications are made online and that no payment is required.
