Childhood trauma refers to the various uncomfortable and dangerous activities that an individual went through during the young years of a persons life majorly between the age of zero to six years.Examples of childhood traumas include accidents, physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and witnessing violence.The effects of childhood traumas are discussed below.

 

1.Difficulty maintaining relationships.The person finds it very difficult to maintain relationships which are friendship relationships and romantic relationships.One finds it very uneasy to make friends around and this leads to reduced social support.Social support refers to the support you receive from people around you.The friends are the people who make the social support system.

 

2.Difficulty trusting others.Growing up witnessing domestic violence and being brought up in a household full of abuses then one will find it very difficult to trust others.For example,the case of a young lady who is sexually abused while young by a man will find it very uneasy to trust men.

 

3.Development of disorders for example personality disorders.Personality disorders one may develop include Antisocial personality disorders which is characterised by inability to obey rules and always driven towards violating the rights of others.Another disorder linked to this is schizoid and schizotypal personality disorders which are characterised by uncomfort in social situations.Other emotional and behavioural disorders may also occur.
