FKF Investigates Match-Fixing Allegations Against Patrick Matasi After Viral Video
FKF is investigating Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over match-fixing allegations after a viral video sparked outrage. FIFA and CAF have zero tolerance for such cases.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has launched an investigation into match-fixing allegations against Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi after a viral video sparked outrage on social media. The footage appears to show Matasi nodding in agreement as an unidentified man—believed to be a recruiter—gives instructions on what seems to be a match-fixing scheme.
In response, FKF has assured stakeholders that it treats match manipulation reports with the utmost seriousness and is working closely with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities to address the matter.
“FKF takes football integrity seriously and has initiated an official investigation following our Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations and FIFA guidelines. We have a zero-tolerance policy on match-fixing and will take all necessary measures to safeguard the credibility of our competitions,” FKF said in a statement on Thursday.
The federation has also urged anyone with relevant information to report it via integrity@footballkenya.org as part of efforts to ensure a fair and thorough process.
Matasi Under Scrutiny Amid Controversial Performances
Matasi, a former Kenya Police FC player and key figure for the Harambee Stars, has faced criticism for inconsistent performances. His last national team appearance ended in a 4-1 defeat to Cameroon, with the final goal raising suspicions among fans due to its seemingly soft nature. The loss further dented Kenya’s hopes of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations and was followed by the resignation of head coach Engin Firat, marking the end of a troubled tenure.
FIFA’s Tough Stance on Match-Fixing
Globally, FIFA and CAF maintain a zero-tolerance policy on match-fixing, with those found guilty facing harsh penalties, including lifetime bans, fines, and even criminal prosecution. FKF has pledged to ensure a fair and transparent process in Matasi’s case, taking into account the rights of both the player and his club.
As the investigation unfolds, Kenyan football fans will be watching closely to see whether these allegations hold weight—or if Matasi can clear his name.
