Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has made an emotional and powerful appeal for unity among the county’s political leadership following his survival of a highly publicized impeachment attempt. Speaking just a day after the Senate threw out the case lodged against him by the Isiolo County Assembly, Governor Guyo called on elected leaders to put aside their political differences and focus on service delivery and development for the benefit of the residents.

In a strongly worded statement, Guyo urged all leaders—from Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to Members of Parliament and the Senator—to rise above partisanship and division. He reminded them that the people of Isiolo had entrusted them with the mandate to improve lives, not engage in constant political bickering.

“Our residents are not interested in endless fights or power games. They are watching us closely and expecting development, peace, and progress,” he said. “It is time we unite and channel our energy into meaningful work that will transform Isiolo for generations to come.”

Governor Guyo survived the impeachment scare after the Senate ruled in his favor, citing serious procedural flaws in the process initiated by the County Assembly. The Senate upheld a preliminary objection by his legal team, which argued that no formal sitting had occurred to authorize the impeachment and that an active court order had barred the Assembly from proceeding with the motion.

A total of 31 senators voted to uphold the preliminary objection, while only 12 opposed it. This decision effectively dismissed the case without the need for a full hearing. Senators stressed that any impeachment process must strictly follow the constitutional and legal procedures to be valid.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, while contributing to the debate, emphasized that justice must be applied fairly and that both sides—the County Assembly and the Governor—deserved due process. “Impeachment is a serious matter. It must follow the rule of law. You cannot bypass procedure and expect a valid outcome,” he said.

Guyo welcomed the Senate’s decision as a victory for truth and a reaffirmation of justice. However, he said it was also a moment of reflection and an opportunity for leaders to recommit themselves to the people they serve.

“This ruling is not just about vindicating me as an individual. It is a wake-up call to all of us. The era of blame games is over. The time for progress and people-first leadership is now,” he declared.

The governor also extended an olive branch to his political rivals and critics, calling for reconciliation and collective responsibility in steering the county forward. He described the ruling as a moment of healing, urging political players to stop sowing division and instead foster unity and inclusivity.

Guyo took the opportunity to call upon Isiolo’s diverse communities to embrace their shared identity and common dreams. “We are one people—brothers and sisters bound not by politics or ethnicity, but by a collective desire for peace, opportunity, and a better future,” he said.

He emphasized that sustainable development can only be achieved when leaders and citizens work together in mutual respect and celebrate the cultural diversity that defines Isiolo. “It is through unity and cooperation that we can tackle the challenges our county faces—be it poverty, insecurity, or unemployment,” he added.

With the impeachment saga now behind him, Governor Guyo reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his promises. He vowed to prioritize infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment initiatives to ensure that every corner of the county feels the impact of good governance.

“We owe it to the people who elected us. Let us prove that their faith was not misplaced. The journey ahead calls for unity, commitment, and above all, genuine leadership,” Guyo concluded.

As Isiolo turns a new page, attention now shifts to whether the county’s political class will heed Guyo’s call and put aside their differences to focus on what truly matters—the development and well-being of the people.
