The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has directed the demolition of billboards, structures, and plant nurseries situated along three major roads.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has ordered traders, developers, and roadside operators to remove all unauthorized structures along three major roads within 30 days. In a notice dated May 27, 2026, KeNHA warned that encroachments on road reserves without approval must be cleared by June 26, 2026. The affected roads are Chebarbar-Lessos-Nabkoi (B12), Mayoni-Bungoma (B139), and Chepsonoi-Kapsabet (B12). Targeted structures include makeshift, permanent, and semi-permanent buildings, billboards, signs, tree nursery beds, and any other unapproved items. The authority said the move aims to enable road reserve protection and ensure safety. After the deadline, all illegal structures will be removed under the Roads Act, 2007, at the owners' cost if applicable. KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli urged full compliance to avoid losses.
