Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has urged Kenyans to take action against leaders who fail to serve the people, insisting that citizens have the right to remove such leaders from office.

Speaking in a television interview on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the stalwart MP said the country should break one law to save millions of citizens from bad leadership instead of allowing ineffective governance to continue. According to Babu, the government is there to serve the people, and if it fails in that role, then the people must step in, then the government will have to address the problems facing Kenya. “We need to remove such leaders from office,” he said.

The MP further pointed his guns at corruption, describing it as the biggest enemy holding Kenya back. He accused corrupt leaders of crippling the country’s economy and denying citizens basic services such as education, health and good infrastructure. “Corruption is what has brought this nation down.

"If the President has truly declared war on corruption, then it must be fought by everyone, not selectively," Babu said. "The war on corruption should not divide Kenyans. "We must unite in demanding accountability." His remarks come as the government has stepped up its anti-corruption drive, with senior officials vowing to bring to justice those implicated in major financial scandals.

Babu, however, warned that prosecutions and political witch hunts would only undermine the credibility of the anti-corruption drive. Babus bold statements underscore his growing status as one of the governments most vocal critics. By calling on citizens to hold leaders directly accountable, the MP is tapping into public frustration over corruption, unemployment and the rising cost of living.

He maintained that Kenya can only move forward if its leadership is held to high standards. "Kenya cannot continue to suffer under negligence and corruption," he added. The Embakasi East MPs remarks are expected to spark debate in political circles, with allies and opponents interpreting them as a direct challenge to the government and political institutions.

Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, has strongly denied claims that he has left the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). His clarification comes amid growing speculation about his political allegiances, especially after his absence from recent ODM activities and his vocal criticism of the broad-based government.

Speaking during an interview on a television station on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Owino sought to set the record straight, and reaffirm his commitment to ODM, while admitting that he may not always agree with every decision made by the party leadership.
