Orwoba released on Sh10,000 police cash bail

Former senator-elect Gloria Orwoba was released on Sh10,000 cash police bail following her arrest outside Parliament House. Police said she was released on Sh10,000 cash bail pending her arraignment and that they were preparing charges of what they called causing disorder and obstruction of justice.

After her arrest, Owoba was taken to the Nairobi Central Police Station, where she was processed and later released. Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda said the investigation team had released her pending her arraignment.

"She was released pending her arraignment on charges of obstruction of justice and causing disorder," he said. He added that the Sh10,000 cash bail was sufficient for the alleged offences. In a post on his Facebook account on Wednesday, Owoba said he was being held at the Central Police Station. "I am being held at the Central Police Station.

I am awaiting my charges which appear to be at the Bunge Police Station," he claimed. The senator had been barred from entering the Senate in what he described as a horrific incident. Owoba did not enter the Senate despite submitting a motion to reinstate him. In a video seen by the Star, security officers were seen blocking him from entering the Senate. Orwoba was heard daring security officers to arrest him, stating that he was in the Senate legally.

He argued that the courts had reinstated him, and UDA’s attempts to prevent him from entering the Senate were thwarted. “I am here to return to work in accordance with the orders and judgments of the courts that came out, in fact, I have my badge and everything… I am coming to work,” he said. According to Owoba, he is the UDA senator-elect until the court decides otherwise.

On August 20, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) overturned the expulsion of former Senator-elect Gloria Orwoba from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing procedural irregularities in disciplinary proceedings—a procedural violation that violated fundamental principles of justice. In its judgment, the court, headed by Desma Nungo, found that the UDAs disciplinary procedure violated the principles of natural justice and due process.

"There was no opportunity for a fair hearing, and the complainant was not given the contested decision," the court ruled. Owoba had previously been expelled from the party on charges of dishonesty, an allegation he denied was politically motivated. UDA maintained that the expulsion was justified and argued before the court that the case was a matter for a lower court based on an application to the High Court previously filed by Owoba.
