Baringo County Set for Major Boost as Sh750 Million Affordable Housing Project Launches in Kiboino
Kiboino in Baringo Central is set to benefit from a Sh750 million affordable housing project aimed at easing the housing deficit. The project, a partnership between NHC and the county government, will deliver 360 units in phases. It also promises job creation and economic empowerment for local youth and SMEs.

Kiboino in Baringo Central Constituency Baringo county is set to undergo a major transformation following the launch of a landmark Sh750 million affordable housing project that promises to uplift the local economy and address the region’s housing challenges for good . The initiative marks a crucial step in the national government’s agenda to provide decent and accessible homes to all Kenyans, especially in rural and underdeveloped areas.

The ambitious development is a result of a strategic partnership between the National Housing Corporation (NHC) and the Baringo County Government. In the agreement signed recently, the NHC will spearhead the planning, financing, and actual construction of the housing units, while the county government will provide the necessary support in terms of land, approvals, and critical infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and sewerage systems.

The project, which is being rolled out in phases, will begin with the construction of 100 modern housing units in its first phase. Eventually, the goal is to deliver a total of 360 affordable homes to meet the increasing demand for decent accommodation in the area.

What sets this initiative apart is its deliberate effort to engage the local community in meaningful activities. The housing scheme is expected to open up economic opportunities for local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the youth by incorporating them into the supply chain of building materials and other services. This approach is projected to create employment, nurture entrepreneurship, and enhance the skill set of local workers, thereby contributing to long-term sustainable development in the region.

Speaking during the announcement, Baringo Central Member of Parliament Hon. Joshua Kandie expressed his full support for the upcoming project, describing it as a timely and transformative move that will significantly benefit the people of Baringo.

“This is a big win for our people and a great step towards changing lives. I want to thank the national government and our county leadership for this collaboration. I urge residents to support and take full ownership of this initiative. Together, we are building a better and brighter future for Baringo,” said Kandie.

The project is part of the national government’s broader Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), which seeks to bridge the housing gap across the country while stimulating economic activity through job creation, increased local production, and community empowerment. By extending such developments into counties like Baringo, the government is also promoting decentralization and equitable growth.

County officials have also echoed Kandie’s sentiments, emphasizing that the new housing units will not only offer decent shelter but also raise the standard of living in the area and attract further investment. With better infrastructure, improved services, and new opportunities emerging from the project, Kiboino is poised to become a model for rural housing development in Kenya.

As the first phase of construction prepares to break ground, optimism and excitement are high among residents. Many see this as the beginning of a new era of progress and opportunity that will help position Baringo Central as a key contributor to Kenya’s national development goals.
