Government Reaffirms Support for Families Affected by Utumishi Girls Academy Fire Tragedy.
The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting families affected by the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, which claimed the lives of 16 students and one parent. Government Spokesperson Hon. Sen. (Dr.) Isaac Mwaura said the State facilitated the transfer of injured students to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment and fully cover all medical expenses. The Government has also pledged KSh200,000 to each bereaved family, in addition to meeting funeral-related costs, including mortuary charges, coffins, transportation, and a requiem mass. A multi-agency team led by the National Disaster Operations Centre continues to coordinate assistance to affected families as the nation mourns the victims.
