Junet Mohamed Declares Himself Majority Leader After Court Ruling
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed occupied the Majority Leader’s seat after a court ruling declared Azimio the Majority side. He urged Parliament to implement the decision, insisting he was capable of leading. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, however, maintained that the ruling did not specify the Majority party.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, led a section of Azimio lawmakers in occupying the Majority side of Parliament following a High Court ruling. The court declared Azimio the Majority coalition, prompting immediate action from its members.
Addressing the National Assembly, Junet expressed joy over the ruling and insisted that the verdict should be implemented without delay. He confidently took the Majority Leader’s seat, joking that it was "warmer" than his previous one and hinting that he had no plans to vacate it anytime soon.
Junet urged fellow lawmakers to respect the court’s decision or challenge it through legal channels. He warned that ignoring the ruling could set a bad precedent and emphasized that the Majority side’s role in Parliament was not solely determined by their seating arrangement. He also defended the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing constitutional grounds.
While asserting his capability to lead the Majority side, Junet stated that he had the experience and numbers to hold the position. However, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula clarified that the court ruling did not explicitly name Azimio as the Majority and maintained that the final decision lay with the House.
