Lawmakers Pay Final Respects to Slain MP Ong’ondo Were as Calls for Justice Grow
Lawmakers gathered at Lee Funeral Home to pay their last respects to slain Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. They later visited his family and called for swift justice. The DCI continues probing the murder, with key suspects already in custody.

A somber mood engulfed Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, as Members of Parliament from both the National Assembly and Senate gathered to honour their slain colleague, Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. The legislators, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, also visited the late MP’s family at their Nairobi home to offer their condolences.

Senator Sifuna, through a post on X (formerly Twitter), shared the lawmakers’ united stance, urging the police to expedite investigations and bring those behind the killing to justice. “We continue to urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation into his murder and bring the culprits to justice,” Sifuna wrote.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has intensified its probe, following the arrest of four suspects who were arraigned in court on Monday, May 5. Key evidence, including CCTV footage, financial trails, and the identification of a getaway vehicle, has provided crucial leads in reconstructing the events surrounding the assassination.

Specialised homicide and forensic teams have now been deployed to uncover the motive behind the killing. The DCI confirmed ongoing efforts to track down additional suspects as the nation awaits justice for the late legislator.
