Mwaura Rejects Survey on Broad-Based Government, Claims Political Bias
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has dismissed a TIFA survey showing majority opposition to the broad-based government. He claimed the poll was politically motivated and funded by unknown interests. Mwaura insisted the Ruto-Raila alliance enjoys widespread national support.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has rubbished a recent survey by TIFA that revealed over half of Kenyans oppose the broad-based government formed by President William Ruto and Raila Odinga. The poll indicated that 54 per cent of respondents do not support the power-sharing arrangement, while only 22 per cent are in favor.
Speaking during a joint radio interview on Thursday, May 29, Mwaura questioned the credibility of the poll, alleging that some survey firms are politically compromised. He hinted that unnamed individuals may have funded the survey to undermine the government’s image. “Some pollsters are paid to conduct such surveys. We want to know who is behind it,” he remarked.
Mwaura argued that the alliance between Ruto and Raila, who together garnered nearly all the votes in the 2022 general election, represents a strong national unity. He estimated that their joint support base could be between 60 and 70 per cent. “When the two biggest political camps unite, you can’t say they only have 22 per cent support,” he insisted.
The TIFA survey showed regional variations in support, with Central Rift showing the highest backing at 37 per cent. However, most other regions—including the Coast, Western, and Nyanza—reported majority opposition to the arrangement. Mwaura dismissed this as midterm discontent, not a true reflection of national sentiment.
