Explaining why the national exercise held in six counties between November and December 2024 was conducted in its home areas of Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui.

The session turned to an increase in fraudulent recruitment agencies, in which lawmakers blamed the minister for not failing to provide sufficient information to Kenyans about legitimate ways of employment. "Have you ever been out and told people what organizations are deceiving them?" Langata MP Phelix Jalango Odiwuor asked. Cs Mutua replied, "I agree we have not done a good job of communicating. But it is also the responsibility of every Kenyan to do good research when they are using these jobs." The committee now wants a detailed list of agencies audited by the Public Mobilization campaign to protect applicants against abuse. "You know we ask why you are lonely - and why you refused to work with us. We have a number - we can present these things on your behalf," added MP Jalango. Of the 6,385 Kenyans who attended the recruitment in November and last December, only 925 were offered temporary work offers. Some applicants say they were deceived by a false agent.
