Signs that someone is addicted.

 Addiction refers to a psychosocial disorder characterised by inability to stop consuming a substance, using the substance and stopping a behaviour for example internet addiction, gambling addiction, food and eating addiction and exercise addiction.Addictions can be classified into two that is substance addiction and behaviour/non substance addiction.Non substance addiction are stated above for example internet addiction.The substance addiction include drug addiction for example excessive alcohol consumption.

 Signs to show that one is addicted to something is clearly defined by Diagnostic Statistical Manual-5 TR and include the following:Intense cravings for a substance or a behaviour.This means that a person has uncontrollable urge to use the substances and engage in a behaviour for example a person cannot be able to go to work without taking alcohol.

The second sign that someone is addicted to a substance or a behaviour is when the person depend too much on others asking for money with no proper explanations of how the money will be used for example you notice your son or daughter who joined a campus from high school but she or he has been asking for three hundred shillings daily but soon you realize that she or he now requires five hundred shillings daily without proper explanations of the spending of the above two hundred shillings.

The third sign that one is addicted is the change in behaviour.If the person is always tidy then you notice that the person suddenly becomes very untidy then it maybe because of addiction.The second behaviour is change in the sleep patterns and when it comes to sleep patterns,the person may start lacking adequate sleep and may develop sleep disorder we call insomnia.On the other hand,the person may develop hypersomnia which is excessive sleep for more than 8 hours per day.The above signs if they exist for more than 6months as stated by Diagnostic Statistical Manual 5 TR then an intervention need to be done.
