Suspected Al-Shabaab Gunmen Abduct Five Chiefs in Mandera
Suspected Al-Shabaab gunmen have abducted five chiefs in Mandera County, according to Mandera South Police Commander Julius Njeru. The incident occurred as the administrators were traveling from Wargadud to Elwak town to carry out their official duties. Njeru confirmed the abduction and assured that authorities are working to track down the assailants and secure the release of the chiefs.
The attack is believed to have been orchestrated by the Al-Shabaab militant group, which has carried out numerous similar assaults in the region. The gunmen reportedly ambushed the vehicle carrying the administrators, overpowering them before fleeing with the captives into the nearby forests. Local security forces have been alerted, and efforts are underway to rescue the abducted individuals.
This abduction marks another chapter in the ongoing threat posed by Al-Shabaab to the region, with the group frequently targeting both civilians and security personnel.
