UDA Candidate Muchina Alleges Campaign Vehicle Burnt, Voter Bribery in Ol Kalou Polls
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga has called for investigations into alleged electoral malpractices during the ongoing Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Speaking after casting his vote on Thursday, Muchina alleged that a vehicle transporting his party agents was torched overnight in Mugumo by suspected goons. While he commended the security arrangements for the exercise, he also claimed to have received reports of individuals attempting to bribe voters at several polling stations and urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate the allegations.
Muchina said he would formally report the incidents to the relevant authorities, expressing confidence that the matter would be handled in accordance with the law.
Despite the claims, the UDA candidate described the voting process as largely peaceful and praised the encouraging voter turnout after a three-month campaign period. He also expressed confidence of emerging victorious, saying the people of Ol Kalou would make their choice through the ballot.
Voting is underway across the constituency's 144 polling stations, where 73,480 registered voters are expected to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of former legislator David Njuguna Kiaraho in March.
Meanwhile, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru is expected to cast his ballot at AC Primary School in Ol Kalou at around 9:30 a.m.
