Head of Public Service Felix Koskei Champions Forest Restoration in Elgeyo Marakwet

Head of Public Service Felix Koskei today led tree planting during the 10th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) at the Sabor and Penon Forests in Keiyo South Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County. This is in line with the Government's target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032. KICP combines forest restoration with water catchment protection, climate action and sustainable livelihoods, demonstrating that conservation and community prosperity go hand in hand. This year's edition, running from 4th to 11th July 2026, targets the planting of over 800,000 tree seedlings across the Sabor and Penon forest blocks, while advancing broader ecosystem restoration and community-led conservation efforts that will strengthen water security, biodiversity and climate resilience for generations to come. Present were Deputy Head of the Public Service Amos Gathecha, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Wisley Rotich,Principal Secretaries; Chris Kiptoo (The National Treasury), Gitonga Mugambi (Forestry), John Ololtuaa (Basic Education),area Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo, Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko, representatives of implementing government agencies, development partners, Community Forest Associations and other stakeholders supporting the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme.
