Voter Registration to Continue at Huduma Centres & IEBC Offices, Commission Confirms

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured Kenyans that despite the conclusion of the continuous voter registration drive, those still wishing to register as voters are not left out. In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon clarified that individuals who missed the 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) period—which ran from March 28 to April 28—can still register at designated locations.

These locations include all Huduma Centres nationwide, IEBC constituency offices, and the IEBC Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi. The commission reiterated that voter registration will continue at these sites as preparations for the 2027 General Election progress.

The ECVR exercise registered over 1.87 million new voters, falling short of the two million target. Nairobi recorded the highest number of new voters at 209,965, followed by Kiambu (97,557), Nakuru (81,166), and Kakamega (80,711). Meanwhile, counties such as Lamu, Isiolo, Mandera, and Nyandarua saw lower turnout, with 8,345, 9,291, 14,946, and 16,604 new voters, respectively.

The clarification came after some social media users expressed concerns about being locked out. The IEBC aims to add at least six million new voters before the next general election, to raise the current 22 million voter count to 28 million by 2027. Another ongoing challenge mentioned is the issue of uncollected identification cards, which could prevent many eligible citizens from participating in the upcoming elections.
