Alliance Girls Principal in Trouble Over Unapproved Fee Hike—From KSh 53,558 to KSh 120,179—Heaping Pressure on Parents

The Ministry of Education has recommended disciplinary action against Margaret Njeru, the Chief Principal of Alliance Girls High School, over an unauthorized fee increment that more than doubled the school’s charges.

According to a directive from Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, Principal Njeru is accused of unilaterally raising fees from the approved Ksh. 53,558 to Ksh. 120,179—a move the Ministry has termed illegal and a violation of established guidelines.

CS Ogamba further alleges that Principal Njeru adopted a budget that included non-essential and unauthorized expenditures, bypassing proper approval channels. The Ministry has formally referred the matter to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for disciplinary proceedings.

In addition to action against the principal, Ogamba has called for the immediate dissolution of the school’s board of management, citing failure in oversight and governance.

Principal Njeru, who took over the helm of the national school after previous leadership, has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. Parents and education stakeholders have welcomed the Ministry’s firm stance, calling for greater transparency in fee structures at public national schools. The TSC is expected to convene a disciplinary committee in the coming days to review the case
