Busia Woman Sparks Uproar After Claiming to Be Virgin Mary
A woman in Nang’oma village, Busia County, has shocked locals by claiming she is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Judith Nafula says a divine voice revealed her identity after a heavenly encounter. Her claims have drawn both followers and skepticism in the community.

Residents of Nang’oma village in Busia County have been left stunned after a local woman, Judith Nafula, publicly claimed she is Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. Her declaration came shortly after she was expelled from Lwanya Catholic Church for allegedly performing false miracles and misleading congregants.

Speaking to the media, Nafula recounted a spiritual experience where a heavenly light and voice revealed her true identity. She described hearing Christ tell her that she was “Mama Maria” and that the time had come for her to reveal herself. She also claimed to have spent two months on a nearby hill receiving visions from the moon.

Her husband, now calling himself Joseph, backed her claims, saying he too received revelations confirming her divine status. He added that villagers have been flocking to their home for prayers, with reports of healings and answered prayers surfacing.

While some villagers believe in her divine mission, others remain skeptical, raising concerns over her mental health and accusing her husband of engaging in occult practices. The incident adds to a growing trend of self-proclaimed messiahs in Western Kenya, such as Bungoma’s “Jesus of Tongaren” and the late Jehovah Wanyonyi.
