Friday Declared Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations
The government has declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha. The announcement was made by Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen through a gazette notice. Eid-ul-Adha is a key Islamic festival marked by prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.

Kenyans will enjoy a public holiday this Friday, June 6, 2025, as the nation marks the Islamic festival of Eid-ul-Adha. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made the announcement through a gazette notice issued on Wednesday.

Murkomen invoked Section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act to officially designate the day as a public holiday in honour of the sacred Muslim event. “It is notified for the general information of the public... Friday, 6th June, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” the notice read.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant religious holidays in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.

The festival promotes unity and charity, with Muslims around the country expected to hold prayers, share meals, and distribute meat to friends, family, and the less fortunate. The day also marks the peak of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
