DCP Breaks Silence After Abrupt Cancellation of Party Launch
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has blamed the Ruto administration for the abrupt cancellation of its planned launch at Kasarani Sports Centre. The party now plans to identify an alternative venue for the event within June. DCP also announced grassroots expansion and interim leadership appointments.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has spoken out after its much-anticipated launch failed to take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Kasarani Sports Centre. According to Secretary General Hezron Obaga, the venue booking was cancelled unexpectedly by the management, allegedly under pressure from the Ruto administration.

Obaga revealed that the cancellation was communicated by Sports Kenya Director-General Gabriel Komora, who cited prior commitments linked to the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025. As a result, the DCP has resolved to seek an alternative private venue and hold the party launch before the end of June.

During its first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held the same day, the party also resolved to accelerate grassroots mobilization by recruiting interim county coordinators and establishing county and constituency offices across the country.

The NEC also endorsed the formation of aspirants’ forums in all counties and urged those seeking elective positions under the DCP banner to register with party headquarters. Obaga cautioned that any unauthorized party offices would be considered illegal.
