Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticized politicians and analysts who, he says, are using ethnicity as a tool to endanger Kenyas problems.
Speaking at a Urban Public Meeting attended by Kenyans from various tribes in Dallas on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Gachagua accused leaders of raising ethnicity for deliberately avoiding accountability and avoiding negative facts.
"Tell me people who want to talk about ethnicity want to run todays issues, they don want to answer the arguments we ask, so they want to hide behind the story Oh, some people are tribal and we will not allow it, we will have to deal with the truth as it is," he said.
Gachagua emphasized that President William Ruto could not avoid being responsible for hiding behind ethnicity especially in connection with allegations that security forces had used excessive force against protesters.
"William Ruto cannot escape the fact that he has killed our children and that without shame and publicly has ordered that people should be shot in the leg. That is a fact that he cannot hide behind ethnicity and his community," he said.
The former deputy president was clear that the actions of individuals should not be associated with the whole community.
He denied allegations that he targeted the Kalenjin community in criticizing William Ruto, emphasizing that the community was not to blame, and that his remarks were directed exclusively to Ruto, who referred to him as the perpetrator of a terrible crime.
"No one from his community has killed our children, and no one can blame the community. He is an individual known by the name. We should not hide behind the community and ethnicity and try to escape the truth," Gachagua said firmly.
He also criticized efforts to silence peaceful conflicts by promoting demonic demons and their followers.
He warned President Ruto that he may be on the grounds that he is not a person to refrain from criticism because the head of state is focused on mentioning him.
"And when people are at peace, you want to cast out demons to stop talking. I think William Ruto was faithful. He would know that Gachagua is one person who cannot be silent and silent. So even if you call me names, I will stay careful," he added.
Gachaguas speech came during the assembly of the city palace where Kenyans from many tribes, including those from Ukraine, Maasaind, Mulembe, Abagusii, and the Generation Z group, attended.
He used the opportunity to quench allegations that his US visit was ethnic for allegedly being involved with members of the Kikuyu community, saying that those who were selling the stories were, real ethnicity
I am here in this city palace and all the tribes from Kenya. Our cousins from Ukraine, the people of Maa. Im so happy that everyone is here. This is the Kenyan and Kenya we want, "he concluded.
