Government Cuts Embassy Rental Costs Abroad by KSh 3 Billion Annually Through Fiscal Reforms
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced that Kenya has reduced its annual spending on embassy rentals abroad by KSh 3 billion, thanks to financial reforms implemented at the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. In a press release, Mwaura explained that these reforms have led to significant savings through lower rental costs as part of broader efforts to improve efficiency and accountability.
He also noted that engagement with Kenyans living abroad has been enhanced through formal labor mobility agreements with various countries, opening up new opportunities for Kenyan workers overseas. Mwaura stated that the government is transforming the overseas employment program through coordinated leadership, deliberate policy decisions, and strong global partnerships. These initiatives are creating structured, safe, and dignified pathways for Kenyans seeking jobs abroad. Supported by a Global Labour Market Strategy, bilateral agreements with key partners, and major programs, more than 580,000 Kenyans have secured employment outside the country, with their rights protected and future prospects expanded.
Mwaura reaffirmed the government's commitment to inclusive and sustainable development through reforms in education, health, housing, and economic growth. As a result, he said, significant progress has been made in improving access, quality, and opportunities for all Kenyans, particularly youth, women, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. He emphasized that these efforts reflect the government's vision of a prosperous and competitive Kenya where every citizen can thrive.
In education, Mwaura highlighted progress aimed at improving quality, equity, access, and affordability from basic to university levels. As part of its support for learners in public institutions, the government has released KSh 23.4 billion in capitation funds for public schools.
