Hiring Crisis Rocks Baringo: Board and Executive Lock Horns Over Recruitment Scandal
A major recruitment scandal has erupted in Baringo County, pitting the Public Service Board against the County Executive. Both sides are accused of corruption, bias, and irregular hiring practices. The County Assembly has launched an investigation to uncover the truth.
A storm is brewing in Baringo County as the Public Service Board and the County Executive clash over controversial staff recruitment practices. Accusations of corruption, lack of transparency, and illegal appointments took center stage during a tense County Assembly session held on Tuesday, exposing deep divisions within the county leadership.
The heated session saw board chairman Joseph Korir, County Secretary Jacob Chepkwony, and senior devolution officials grilled by MCAs over irregularities in hiring, staff promotions, and the unexplained transition of casual workers into permanent roles. MCA Sharon Keter accused both sides of bias and corruption, while Board CEO Samson Kibii blamed the County Secretary for withholding critical employee data.
The Assembly halted the employment of 62 newly recruited officers, citing concerns over discrimination against marginalized groups and long-serving casuals. Tensions escalated when it was revealed that some workers from the previous administration were dismissed, while allies of top officials were confirmed into permanent roles.
A seven-member committee has now been formed to investigate the allegations. As both sides continue trading blame, MCAs are demanding accountability and transparency to restore public trust in Baringos hiring process.
