Paul Merson reflects on his Bryan Mbeumo transfer prediction as Man Utd see off Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United finally snapped up Bryan Mbeumo this week as Ruben Amorim landed a major addition to his attack.

The deal is now duly signed, sealed and delivered and Mbeumo will be wearing the number- 19 at Old Trafford and will get his first outing during the pre-season tour of the United States.
United could be still on the hunt to add more attacking players to their ranks, but recruiting two confirmed Premier League goalscorers in Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha is a mammoth shot in the arm.

United were not the only club in the running over the signature of Mbeumo, and that is unsurprising, as the forward has a record in the Premier League. It is reported that Chelsea was interested in Mbeumo and attempted to have a hijack on the deal by United.

Mbeumo had waited on United but there was another possible destination that would have been enticing.
Tottenham Hotspur had also enquired about Mbeumo, and had made his previous Brentford manager Thomas Frank their new manager this summer.

They (Spur) were even unsuccessful in influencing the thoughts of Mbeumo, with Paul Merson the pundit confessing how he had made the mistake in relating to the Cameroon front.

Mentioning it in a video uploaded on X, Merson stated that he believed that Mbeumo would rather move to Tottenham.
Merson cited the makings of having Champions League football and the chance to remain in London, in believing that Mbeumo might prefer Spurs to United.

Merson thinks that Mbeumo has travelled a long way to go home with nothing, apparently because he feels Mbeumo will find it hard to win trophies in United.

The ex-Arsenal striker further spoke that he believes that Mbeumo is a good player and a good signing by United as he has developed goals to his repertoire last year.

a bit of stick on Bryan Mbeumo about going to Man Utd at the moment Merson replied, I told him that he woulI had supposed he would. I believed that he would like to play in the Champions League and he has been living in London playing in Brentford. I believed he may like to stay, and he has reneged to go to Man Utd where…it is a long distance away when you are not going to win anything; and it would be more productive to stay at Tottenham and become a loser.

My opinion was that, I was mistaken. Good to play against, he is a great player. I have always liked him; the only problem is that I did not think that he scored enough goals, last season he introduced goals to his play.

It is my evaluation that he is an extremely good player, so he would be a fantastic sign to Man Utd.”d choose Tottenham over Man Utd.
