Former Prime Minister of rebublic of Kenya Raila Odinga has called on those who defend President William Ruto to serve only one term, asking them to give the government enough space to fulfill its responsibilities and not make a decision until the 2027 General Election.
Give us space and room, and judge us in 2027. If you are saying wantam, so what? It's Kenyans who will decide the term, and we will see where we want to go. I am confident that vwhen that time comes, we will face Kenyans squarely and tell them this is why we did a,b,c,d, and this is where we want to go. You'll say yours and we will say ours. Then we will see who Kenyans will believe Raila Odinga

Former Prime Minister of rebublic of Kenya Raila Odinga has called on those who defend President William Ruto to serve only one term, asking them to give the government enough space to fulfill its responsibilities and not make a decision until the 2027 General Election. Speaking today during the funeral of Phoebe Asiyo on Friday, August 8, 2025, Raila dismissed the cry saying it was a baseless nuisance, confirming that it would not disrupt the governments commitment to serve Kenyans. "I would like to urge the opponents of the wider government to give us the space we need and preserve their decision for 2027.
We have made it clear that this broad-based government will remain until the 2027 elections, and then we will pave the way forward," Raila declared guilty. He emphasized that it is the will for the freedom of the Kenyan people that will ultimately determine the term of office of any leader, expressing the unwavering belief that when the time comes, the government will stand before the voters openly, making clear its achievements and future aspirations.
Raila then likened the songs of Wantam to the inappropriate sound of a frog that cannot stop a cow from drinking water. "It is Kenyans who will decide the conditions, and we will see where we choose to continue. Such noises, Wantam noises, resemble the sound of a frog; they cannot stop a cow from drinking water. The cow will drink, and we will move forward beyond 2027.
I have no doubt about this," he insisted. Furthermore, he cautioned against any attempts to break the nation by spreading narratives of discrimination or division on ethnic and regional lines. In fierce criticism, Raila even addressed recent references to the cousin of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua towards the Wakamba community, declaring that they are not productive for national unity. "We are all Kenyans; don spread the lie that Kenya is partially isolated. Whether one comes from the coast, the Rift Valley, or the highlands, every Kenyan is important in the structure of this nation.
This cousin concept is waterproof. Are some Kenyans cousins while others are not? Will the hell have been the case? he questioned emphatically. The story of Wantam has gained momentum among the opposition factions that want President Ruto to serve for one term, citing that there are shortcomings in his administration. The word Wantam comes from the words one term.
