The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across five key regions from June 2 to June 9, 2025. Temperatures are expected to soar above 30°C in coastal and northern areas, while some highland regions may drop below 10°C at night. Strong winds and scattered thunderstorms are also expected in various parts of the country.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast a continuation of rainfall in several parts of the country throughout the week from June 2 to June 9, 2025. Affected regions include the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western Kenya, where residents should brace for morning rains, afternoon thunderstorms, and occasional night showers.
In a detailed weather advisory released Tuesday, the Met Department highlighted that daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in coastal, northeastern, and northwestern regions, while nighttime temperatures may fall below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Rift Valley. Strong winds of over 25 knots are also expected, especially across coastal regions and northeastern Kenya.
The Lake Victoria Basin and surrounding counties — including Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Kakamega — will experience widespread rains and thunderstorms. North-western counties such as Turkana and Samburu will see mostly sunny days with partly cloudy nights, while Nairobi and surrounding counties will have light scattered showers, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.
Meanwhile, the southeastern lowlands and the coastal strip will largely remain dry during the day, with brief showers expected in some areas. The Met Department has urged residents, especially in areas expecting strong winds and extreme temperatures, to take necessary precautions during this period.
