The Minister of Internal Affairs and Government Coordination Kipchumba Murokomen has condemned the increase in cases of killing women, suicide and sexual violence in the country and called for the joint efforts of key stakeholders to deal with the evil.
The minister was saddened by the brutal killings targeting citizens, most of them women and young girls, saying that such acts of violence destroy families and shake society as a whole, making people live in fear all the time. Speaking during a press conference in the town of Ol-Kalou in Nyandarua County during his 31st visit to the County Security Forum, the Minister noted that such cases were indicators of mental health problems but called on investigative agencies to ensure justice is done to the victims.
He added that the government is trying to find better ways to deal with these challenges, noting that this is caused by social and social issues. At the same time it was found that drugs, alcohol consumption and drugs are also a big challenge facing many families across the country. He said the increase in producers and exporters of these illegal products from the county and neighboring countries has discovered areas of these products in large markets across the country.
Murkomen said the government is engaging a multiagency team to fight against illegal alcohol and dirty alcohol. The minister challenged the chiefs and their assistants to set strategies in the areas they manage to fight and eliminate the evil in their areas. "The government is also negotiating with the Nyandarua County governor and County Assembly Members of Parliament to establish a state-funded correctional facility that will be accessible to victims of alcohol consumption," CS added.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister saw that the government has made great efforts to deal with cases of livestock theft in Nyandarua County, noting that this has been achieved through cooperation with the public and security agencies. However, he challenged residents to always be cautious and ensure livestock was properly protected.
In recent clashes and political protests during the Genz protests in which government offices and a police station were set on fire in Olkalou, Murkomen thanked law enforcement for taking decisive action to contain the situation.
He also said that the crime of burning government offices, police stations or private property will be considered as terrorist acts. However, the Minister noted that he will have an open conversation with chiefs, law enforcement agencies and citizens about the way to develop law and stability in the county. Nyandarua County Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha appreciated what the government is doing in terms of maintaining security

However, the Governor asked the Minister to consider housing some of the senior officials of Olkalou who were left in Nyahururu town after being employed in Laikipia County and added that having those officers at the headquarters of the County in Olkalou will increase the immediate response to emerging issues.
