The government has intensified its fight against companies that abuse musicians, artists, and content creators to increase their revenue. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki said that the Kenya Kwanza administration is prioritizing the simplification of the sector, which has been plagued by unscrupulous people who want to reap unproductive benefits.
On Wednesday, he welcomed more than 2000 musicians, content creators and artists to his Irunduni home in Tharaka Nithi County, ensuring that the government would not abandon them because of companies aimed at impoverishing them. "Groups in the creative industry must close and leave. We e not asking them, we e asking them to get off the stage and let musicians, content creators and show artists benefit from the sweat and talent God gave them," DP warned. Prof. Kindiki, who is a major figure in the fight against terrorist companies, has said that the government will not resign until artists and designers are given the compensation they deserve.
He blasted the millions of money being filtered by those who contribute little, even as musicians and designers continue to suffer from getting nuts. The DP warned that there would be no dialogue that would advance the exploitation agenda, adding, "The Government will not be intimidated and will thwart any attempt to discourage it. "No opposition, court orders or frustration will stop the government from empowering talented young people in the creative and executive industries," he stressed.
"The president has given me this job. We will not be lax in uprooting companies in the industry. You will see a lot of progress this year,β added. At the same time, the Government is funding bills in Parliament to improve the income of designers who have suffered for many years, thus intensifying the fight against their long-term struggle.
Creative Economics, under the Ministry of Youth is also specifically designed to address the issues of those who depend on the sector. βWe have two new Bills; the Creative Economic Assistance Bill, 2024 and the Cultural Law Bill, 2024 which is now before Parliament. The two will ensure that great potential in the creative economy is developed, so that our creative artists can be paid for their sweat and talents,β DP revealed.
