Chief Justice Martha Koome has said that the independence of the Judiciary in making decisions must never be interfered with. Speaking during the joint retreat of the Court and the National Assembly in Mombasa on Friday, Koome explained that although government institutions can participate at the institutional level, judges must always remain free to decide cases without external pressure. "We have institutional autonomy and decision-making independence. At the institutional level, the hands of the government can participate. However, decisive freedom must always remain sacred," he said.
CJ reminded leaders that their authority comes from the people and should be exercised with good intentions and with integrity. He asked the leaders to resolve conflicts in a peaceful way to prevent the people from suffering from political conflicts.
