Activist Boniface Mwangi was deported from Tanzania and left in Ukunda, Kwale County, appearing injured and frail. He was taken to a Diani hospital for medical attention. His release followed public pressure and diplomatic intervention after he went missing on Monday.

Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi was on Thursday morning deported from Tanzania and left at Ukunda in Kwale County, sparking public outrage and concern over his condition. Family sources said he appeared frail and injured upon arrival and was immediately taken to a hospital in Diani for medical review.

“We have a picture showing he is injured and frail. He is currently under medical care,” a family member revealed. Mwangi had reportedly gone missing on Monday after traveling to Tanzania to attend a court hearing for opposition leader Tundu Lissu.

His release came after intense diplomatic pressure and public outcry, with Kenyans threatening demonstrations outside the Tanzanian High Commission in Nairobi. The incident triggered swift intervention from government officials.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi confirmed Mwangi’s release, assuring the public that efforts had been made to ensure his safe return home.
