Tension in Kenya Kwanza: MP Jayne Kihara Blames Ruto for Security Withdrawal
Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has accused President Ruto of endangering her life after her security was withdrawn. She claims the move targets allies of DP Gachagua amid rising political tensions. Kihara warned Ruto would be to blame if anything happens to her.
Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara has accused President William Ruto of endangering her life by allegedly withdrawing her security detail in what she terms a politically motivated move targeting allies of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, a visibly distressed Kihara warned that should anything happen to her, the blame would fall squarely on the President.
Kihara said her bodyguard was abruptly recalled, disarmed, and interrogated in connection to a recent shootout incident at DCI headquarters, despite not being present at the scene. She expressed fear for her safety and demanded that Ruto fulfill his earlier promise not to use state security for political retribution. “I feel naked and vulnerable. Mr. President, please let me live,” she pleaded.
The legislator linked the move to broader intimidation against Gachagua loyalists, citing the recent shooting of Kasipul MP Charles Were as a chilling example of the risks MPs now face without adequate protection. “Are we supposed to hire goons with pangas to protect us?” she posed.
Her remarks come amid heightened friction within the Kenya Kwanza alliance, as Gachagua himself recently alleged that his life was in danger. He claimed state agents had trailed him during a church service, allegedly planning to attack him with poisoned tear gas—a charge that further exposes growing cracks in the ruling coalition.
