Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has urged Kenyans to stay hopeful and proactive in shaping the country’s future by registering to vote ahead of the 2027 general election. Speaking during a massive public rally in Kisii County on May 2, Matiang’i emphasized the power of unity, resilience, and democratic participation as Kenya faces economic and social pressures.

Addressing an electrified crowd during the launch of his consultative tour of the Gusii region, Matiang’i called on citizens not to give up. “Let us not lose hope. Let us not give up on our country. Kenya is built on resilience,” he said, stressing that current challenges would pass if Kenyans remain united and focused on choosing capable leaders.

The former CS, who was warmly welcomed by thousands of supporters and flanked by local leaders including governors Simba Arati and Amos Nyaribo, hinted at a potential presidential bid. He underscored the importance of voter registration, calling it a critical step in fixing the country’s issues. “When the time comes, we shall cross that bridge together,” he added.

Matiang’i’s tour follows a recent strategy meeting with key opposition figures such as Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa, fueling speculation about a united opposition front in 2027. While the Jubilee Party has endorsed him as their preferred presidential candidate, Matiang’i is yet to officially declare his bid.
