Leaders from Western Kenya have expressed strong support for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), emphasizing their pivotal role in driving grassroots development. During a fundraising event at Friends Secondary School in Shamakhokho, Vihiga County, local legislators united to defend the funds, urging citizens to actively participate in the upcoming public forums aimed at entrenching them in the Constitution.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula called for a shift in focus from divisive politics to people-centered development. "Our connection with the people must be rooted in service, not politics," Wetang’ula said. Luanda MP Dick Maungu took time to address misconceptions about the NGCDF, explaining that the funds are not for MPs, but are managed by a board and designed for the benefit of the people. "Every shilling is meant to improve lives at the grassroots," he affirmed.

Kiminini MP Kakai Bissau echoed the call for accountability, highlighting the tangible benefits of the funds. "These are the quickest funds to reach the people," Bissau noted, citing their use in education, infrastructure, and community upliftment. Vihiga MP Ernest Kagesi also urged residents to participate in the public forums, stressing that the future of the funds depends on the peoples voices being heard.

The positive impact of the funds was a central theme for the days speakers, with Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana and Aldai MP Marianne Kitany emphasizing the transformative effect NG-CDF and NGAAF have had in their communities. "These funds are building schools, creating opportunities, and providing our children with a future," Kitany said. The leaders concluded by affirming their commitment to transparency and responsible management, urging the public to stand up and safeguard these vital resources.
