A quiet Sunday evening in Eldoret turned into a crime scene after a 45-year-old woman, Doris Murei Nandi, was allegedly shot dead by a General Service Unit (GSU) police officer inside a restricted security compound near the State Lodge. The incident, which occurred on August 30, 2026, has shocked residents of Uasin Gishu County and sparked fresh concerns about gun misuse by armed officers and the rising number of violent killings linked to personal relationships. 

Although early social media posts described the victim as a nurse from Nandi County, police reports have so far identified her only as Doris Murei Nandi. Authorities have not officially confirmed her profession, making it important to distinguish verified facts from unconfirmed online claims.

the GSU officer had been arrested in the Kaptinga area along the Kapsaret–Maili Tisa bypass. Police reportedly recovered a Jericho pistol loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition from him. He was also found with an injury to his left forefinger and was treated at Life Care Hospital before being taken into custody at Naiberi Police Station. 

The officer was reportedly attached as a bodyguard to a local governor.
