Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has officially announced her candidacy for the 2027 gubernatorial elections, aiming to reclaim the seat she held from 2018 to 2022. Speaking at a funeral in Kitui Central, Ngilu revealed she is responding to persistent calls from residents urging her to run again, vowing to continue her work for the county.

Ngilu stepped down from the 2022 elections, throwing her support behind Governor Julius Malombe, who won the seat. However, she now believes it is time to return and complete her unfinished work, stressing that Kitui residents deserve accessible leadership and dignified service delivery.

Addressing mourners at Ivovoa village, she criticized leaders who isolate themselves in office, promising to maintain her open-door policy and ensure that all residents—regardless of social status—are served equally.

“People must be served with dignity, whether they are rich or poor, whether they wear shoes or not,” Ngilu stated.

She also condemned government officials who block public access, move around in large convoys, and detach from the citizens they pledged to serve. If re-elected, Ngilu promised to remain approachable, accountable, and dedicated to the people of Kitui.
