Defiant Natembeya Vows to Push On After Arrest, Calls Graft Case Political Witch-Hunt
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has dismissed his recent graft charges as politically motivated, vowing to continue serving residents despite a court barring him from his office. He pledged to fight injustice and remain accessible while operating from subcounty offices. Natembeya thanked supporters for standing by him, calling for unity and an end to tribal politics.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has broken his silence following his recent arrest, vowing to remain steadfast in his political mission despite what he calls attempts to derail his leadership through intimidation and false graft charges. Addressing a prayer rally in Kitale, Natembeya said he was prepared for the ordeal and believes his growing influence has made him a target of political opponents uncomfortable with his stand on national issues.
The governor attributed his rise to God’s grace and the overwhelming support of Trans Nzoia residents, especially the youth, whom he thanked for standing with him. “I was more touched by how angry and concerned people were over my arrest than by the ordeal itself,” he noted, adding that his message speaks truth to power and threatens the entrenched status quo.
Natembeya, who is currently barred by a court order from accessing his official office, has since relocated his base of operations to subcounty offices, saying leadership is about service—not location. “I will serve the people from wherever I am. The office is the person, not the building,” he affirmed, pledging full respect for the court’s 60-day directive.
Despite the corruption charges filed in Nairobi, the governor maintains his innocence, claiming the allegations are politically motivated. He used his recent return to Trans Nzoia to tour parts of the Western region, drawing huge crowds and reinforcing his growing political stature. Natembeya urged residents to shun tribalism and embrace unity, pledging to continue fighting for justice, good governance, and development in the region.
