Gachagua Declares Fresh Political War on Mt Kenya MPs Over Ruto Loyalty
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has renewed attacks on Mt Kenya MPs for their loyalty to President Ruto, calling it a betrayal. He warned they will face voter backlash in future elections. Gachagua is leading a regional campaign to unseat them.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on Mount Kenya MPs, accusing them of blindly siding with President William Ruto and betraying the region. While addressing congregants at AIPCA Gatumbi Church in Lari, Kiambu County, Gachagua labelled their unwavering loyalty to Ruto as a “regional embarrassment” and warned they would face voter backlash.
The ex-DP accused the MPs of being complicit in his 2024 impeachment and reiterated his call for constituents to vote them out in 2027. “They say yes to everything Ruto says. Let them continue — wananchi will deal with them,” Gachagua warned, reigniting tensions barely a year after his ouster from office.
Since January 2025, Gachagua has been on a relentless campaign trail across Mt Kenya, portraying the MPs as sellouts and colonial-era "home guards" for allegedly prioritising personal gain over regional unity. He vowed to name and shame those undermining his leadership and regional influence.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki recently fired back, cautioning Gachagua against inciting the public and destabilising the government with early campaigns. Kindiki urged leaders to wait for the right time to engage in politics and instead focus on development.
