MPs Demand Gachagua’s Arrest Over Incitement Claims in Fiery House Debate
MPs have called for the arrest of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over incitement remarks made during a media interview. They accused him of promoting hate and defying NCIC summons. A motion may be introduced to bar him from holding public office.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing mounting pressure from Members of Parliament who on Tuesday urged Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja to arrest and prosecute him for incitement. The MPs cited Gachagua’s controversial remarks in a recent media interview, where he warned of post-election violence akin to a "Christmas party" if the 2027 elections were not conducted fairly.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed led the charge, accusing Gachagua of promoting hate and instability, particularly in areas like Mathira and Wamunyoro. Junet warned that such “reckless utterances” could ignite violence and insisted that security agencies must act swiftly. “This is a man who has lost his head and wants to drive the country into chaos,” he said.

Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah backed the call, criticizing Gachagua’s defiance of National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summons and demanding that the law be enforced without bias. Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro went a step further, calling for a psychiatric evaluation of the former DP and pushing for his immediate arrest.

Junet further announced plans to introduce a special motion or petition in Parliament to bar Gachagua from holding any public office in Kenya. “Even being a party leader qualifies one as a state officer. He should not be allowed to hold any leadership position in this country,” Junet emphasized.
