Parenting can mean guardianship.It also refers to the process of raising a child from birth to adulthood which means from zero years to the age of eighteen.Parenting styles according to the family and marriage psychology means the various methods that parents and caregivers apply to raise their kids or children.There are various types of parenting styles and they include Authoritative parenting style, Authoritarian parenting style,Permissive parenting style and Neglectful parenting style.They are discussed below:

1.Authoritative parenting style 

This refers to a method of raising a child with adequate control and responsibility.The parents allow children to be involved in decision making, parents use rewards to reinforce good behaviours.Children raised by this method tend to have high self esteem and self respect.

2.Authoritarian parenting style.

This is where the parent has a lot of control and the child less responsibility.Parents tend to use dictatorship in their parenting, more controlling.Children from this parenting style tend to avoid responsibilities in future and dependent on others.

3.Permissive parenting style.

This is where the parent gives too much responsibility to the child and parent less control.Children raised by this parenting style tend to lack delayed gratification of needs and may develop lifestyle diseases like Obesity due to binge eating.
